I am a PhD Candidate in Interdisciplinary Studies at the University of British Columbia, and my work combines memory, imagination and creativity. I am a poet and researcher interested in how citizenship is impacted by social forgetting. My PhD project explores the largely forgotten 1979 sinking of a ship in which several Ugandan exiles died. I hope to recover what remains of this event and trace it through a poetry and videography. My recent publication 100 Days (University of Alberta Press, 2016) is a collection of poetry that questions the role of commemoration of the twentieth anniversary of the 1994 Rwanda Genocide.
