Allison Upshaw is a new graduate student in interdisciplinary studies at the University of Alabama. Upshaw’s interests include arts based research methods, education, and aesthetic/creative embodiments as a way of reading the world. Her first auto ethnography, Battles of Wounded Me, is a performative work in music and theater. Currently, Upshaw is working on a new auto ethnography, Arias to Artist/Researcher/Teacher/Scholar: The Academic Reformation of an Opera Singer, through music and somatics. I also work as an education consultant/Teaching Artist training educators to see literacy in and through the arts. In a parallel life, I hold degrees in opera singing and have worked as a professional actress.
